The story is good, but not excellent, what makes this film so wonderful is the directing and the performances. Michael feels that Tommy carries a big chip on his shoulder, ignores that Shelly fell for him at first sight, but is mesmerized by Tommy's resemblance (purposefully enhanced) to Kyle. It's quite obvious that Andy Garcia, who also co-produced this film, gave his all in the lead role, and the result is an honest, committed, often moving performance. They could easily have played up the manipulation of the boy against the psychologist, they didn't. Early scenes with therapists not wanting to let their patient out on his 18th birthday seem strange since there's no indication that the kid has been anything other than a model resident of the youth home.
From then on, Tommy uses the information in therapy sessions and manipulates Michael, who more and more sees his own son in him. I watch it once and i will always remember as i remember my child. Andy Garcia is selecting good screenplays for producing and revealing also an excellent producer. However, the title THE UNSAID is; if not perfect, very close to it.
