Kareem Martin was a struggling business owner and former athlete who buckled to temptation when he agreed to sell an undercover police agent $14,000 worth of ecstasy, a judge was told this week.Martin pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count of drug trafficking and was sentenced to five years in prison.Martin, 32, was one of 13 people arrested last February following a lengthy police investigation targeting organized crime.Like similar investigations before it, Project Deplete used a paid police agent to ensnare targets.Court heard Martin, a former professional boxer with ties to the Zig-Zag Crew and Rock Machine, had just recently opened a health products store in St. James when the agent, who he had known for about a year, approached him in October 2011 wanting to buy a large quantity of ecstasy.Over the course of several meetings, the agent negotiated and consummated a deal to purchase 10,000 ecstasy pills for $14,000.
